Richard B. Allen

Richard Allen's tenure of service as pastor was for the years 1977 through 1978. He came to our church from Edgewood Baptist Church of West Monroe, Louisiana.

Brother Allen was born in 1936 and was a native of Mullins, South Carolina. He spent eight years in the United States Air Force, much of the time in Alaska where he did undergraduate work at the University of Alaska. He later attended Northeast Louisiana University and completed his master's degree at the University of South Carolina. While in Lake View, South Carolina he served as a public school teacher and administrator and received the South Carolina Star Teacher Award of 1967.

He and his wife, Lou Blaizer Allen, have three children: Rhonda, Teddy and Tina. He was known for his clear, incisive sermons and ability to quote large sections of relevant poetry and prose from memory within those sermons.
