James Drane Jameson

J. D. Jameson served as pastor of Homer Baptist Church from 1893 to 1896. He was born in Muscogee county, Georgia and educated at Mississippi College and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Brother Jameson was ordained December 8, 1872 and was pastor of Magnolia, Camden and Hot Springs Baptist churches in Arkansas; Santa Rosa, California and of Corinth and Macon Baptist churches in Mississippi. He served as secretary of state missions while in Arkansas and was the editor of a newspaper there.

He was called to preach two sermons per month and was expected to live in Homer. He and his wife, Ida, moved to Homer from Crystal Springs Baptist Church, Mississippi. In his term, the church elected to undergo another building program, this time to build a 'new-fangled' indoor baptistery. He served as pastor of Rocky Springs church three times. Persons joining the church by experience and by letter underwent a dramatic increase. Previous to this time, the membership of the church stayed around fifty to sixty. He stayed in the church for some time after he left the pastorate and served as an associational delegate for the church.

It is believed he gave up the active ministry due to continuing problems with laryngitis which greatly affected his ability to preach. 25
