George Milton Hall

George Hall was the pastor of our church from 1958 to 1965. He was born June 25, 1917 in Elberton, Georgia and ordained by the First Baptist Church of Elberton August 29, 1946. Brother Hall graduated from the University of Georgia in 1946 and attended Southern Baptist Seminary while associate pastor of Walnut Street Baptist Church of Louisville, Kentucky. After graduation in 1951, he was called to be the pastor of First Baptist Church of Middleton, Kentucky and Alexander City, Alabama. From there he came to Homer. He and his wife, Donna, had four children: George, Carlton, Catherine and Alisa Ann.

Brother Hall served as trustee of Homer Memorial Hospital and is distantly related to some members of the church by marriage. He fondly remembers Charlie Roberts as a music director who would do anything he could in support of the music program and church, Melton Oakes, the "preacher's friend," and the loving kindness of his church family.

His proudest recollection is that of the phenomenal Sunday School growth, which he attributes to the hard work of the Sunday School teachers and especially Dr. Thomas Deas. Since serving our church, Brother Hall was pastor for Valwood Park Baptist Church of Dallas, North Palm Beach Baptist Church of Florida and First Baptist Church of Lexington, Georgia. He served for a time on staff at Southern Seminary.

Now retired, he enjoys his grandchildren and stays busy with interim work. It was during the tenure of Brother Hall the church, in conjunction with a special program to promote the Lottie Moon Christmas offering, had a conference call to Betty Headrick, our own missionary in Brazil. She remembers the telephone visit to her church family and personal family as one of the best gifts she could have received. 42
