Hugh Miller

Hugh Miller is the proprietor of a well conducted mercantile establishment at Millerton, Louisiana He was born in Marion County, Alabama, in 1855, being one in a family of eleven children born to John and Cassie (Guyton) Miller, who were born in Alabama and South Carolina, respectively, the former being a son of John Miller, a native of Ireland, who came to America at an early day and settled in the Palmetto State.

Hugh Miller came to this State and parish in 1870, with his parents, and located in the neighborhood of Athens; where they made their home for two years, then came to near where Hugh is now doing business, and here the father passed from life in January, 1890, being still survived by his widow.

Hugh opened his present establishment to the public in 1883, on a not, very extensive scale, and now has a store well stocked with an excellent line of goods.

In 1878 he was married to Miss Mary E. Neil, and by her is the father of the following children: Olive N., Banny E., Her, H. Carl, Clyde and Clarence, the baby. In his political views Mr. Miller has long been a Democrat, and at all times supports the men and measures of that party. Although he is a .young man, he is rapidly making his way to the front among the energetic business men of this community; and although only thirty-five years of age he has built up a large and paying patronage, and by attending strictly to each minor detail of his chosen calling cannot fail to succeed.

His wife is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
