Andrew E. Clemmons

The exact time or times served by Brother Clemmons is not yet clear. As of now it appears that Brother Clemmons served as interim pastor before the tenure of Brother Fancher, after him and as supply pastor during that time. This was possible since each pastor might have as many as four or five small churches to attend to regularly. Brother Clemmons was born in Bedford County, Tennessee September 14, 1821, joined the Methodist church at the age of seventeen and was licensed to preach. At the age of twenty- two, he underwent a change of mind and joined the Baptist church. He then moved to Noxubee County, Mississippi and was ordained as a Baptist minister.

In 1850, he, his wife Lucy and their eleven children moved to Minden where he pastored Minden and Mt. Lebanon churches. He is credited with starting Monroe First Baptist Church and is listed as pastor at Keatchie and Homer, Louisiana as well as pastor in Longview, Mineola and Kaufman, Texas. Brother Clemmons served as pastor to Marshall Baptist Church, Marshall, Texas for thirteen years, then at Shreveport, where he served at First Church for five years though he never moved his family from Marshall to Shreveport. This was during the time of the Great Yellow Fever Epidemic and Brother Clemmons faced exposure to the disease time and again as he continued to minister to the sick and the dying. He also served as pastor in Longview and Mineola, Texas. He died December, 1899 in Marshall, Texas. He and his wife had eleven children. 10
