Albert Odessa Jenkins

Brother Jenkins served as pastor from 1972 through 1977. One of the important events of his term of service was the Lay Renewal of 1976, an event that touched many lives.

He was born June 27, 1915 in Laurel, Mississippi and received degrees from Clark College and East Texas Baptist College. He and his wife, the former Norma Lucile Cobb, were high school sweethearts. Their children are Janice Jenkins Quick, Patricia Jenkins Scott, Judy Jenkins Scrivner and Ronald Jenkins.

Brother Jenkins served as pastor in Baptist churches in Port Arthur and Bryan, Texas and in Greenwood and Springhill, Louisiana before coming to Homer. He retired from the active pastorate in 1976 and currently lives in Marshall, Texas where he and his wife stay involved in church life through Sunday School teaching and interim work. Brother Jenkins continues his love of woodworking.

His most vivid memory of First Baptist Church includes Edna Owens. Having convinced Mrs. Owens of the value and necessity of Training Union, he watched with pride as she built the program from nothing to the finest in the state of Louisiana. The year she was recognized at the State Convention in honor of her effort was a proud time for him and his congregation. 44
